After the suggestion on full speech for Ultima IX : Asension where some reaction...

Naw, not for me. I don't like full speech in rpg games, it tends to take a little something away from it and makes it harder for me to immerse myself into the game as a character.

I also find that full speech increases my frustration, especially in games like Ultima where conversations tend to repeat.
In U7 I often would forget which conversational options I had gone through with a certain NPC. It was easy enough to quickly skim through all of the text to check. With full speech however, you often have to wait out the dialog, hearing the same spiel over and over again. The worst example of this that comes to mind is 7th guest. If you accidentally click the wrong place on the screen you are subjected to a lengthy full speech monolog. Even when it is possible to skip a spoken blurb by hitting the space-bar or some other key, I still prefer the combination of ease and flexibility that written text give me.

That's fine! But would those of you who feel the same way, would you support the idea IF
1/ It didn't delay the release date of UIX and...
2/ It didn't cost any more....
3/ And it came on a separate CD giving you the choice of Text or Speech
That way, you could be satisfied too and you would be supporting fellow ultima players who would love to have full speech.
Avatus.
P.S. The actors who did the speech in Ultima8 were brilliant but they weren't famous actors...

About Music

I preferred the noncontinuous music of Ultima 7 to the constant droning of Ultima 8. It seemed to set the atmosphere of whatever situation you were dealing with at the time. I also thought it was superier to Pagans, maybe not technically but as far as protraying the right mood it was untouchable. I hope Origin goes with an event/location driven music system like Ultima 7 for Ultima IX.

And use lots of sound effects to make the world come alive, bird chirps and such.
That was something really missing from Pagan.

Music is important. I would like it to be similar to Ultima VII, but with fighting music that's more like Ultima IV. UIV had the best combat music of all of them. Also, I like the VII technique of only having music in certain locations and during fighting. Constant music like IV, V, VI, and VIII tends to detract from the realism of the game, and doesn't really add much to the drama. A final musical suggestion: when you walk into a pub and hear music, it would be good to see a group of bards playing it, a/la the automatons in the Serpent Isle Blue Boar. If there are no bards, there should be no music at that time.

The music scores for U7 and Serpent Isle where terrific, I would like that u9 have the same quality, but with new technology. First you should be able to choose between general midi, or 'mod' type music (like the one on crusader:no remorse) that would make happy those witrh their superb equipment of sound cards(wave table, midi interfaces, etc) and those with a simple sound blaster stereo!
