Believers of the Source Prestige Class

Disciple of Ascendance

  • Even in the ranks of the Believers, there are those who are not worthy of ascendance. They toil and strive for divinity, but they lack the will and determination to push forward when others fall. Only the most dedicated Believers move on to the next level of existence (if such a thing truly happens), and many of these individuals are Disciples of Ascendance.
  • These dedicated men and women form the fighting core of a Godsmen faction that attracts far more warriors than it does spellcasters. For those who fight, the greatest combination in martial combat is that of mind, soul, and body in one cohesive unit. Within the halls of the Great Foundry echo the cries of those training in this combat technique to attempt to achieve perfection.
  • Levels in this class do not in any way equate to higher positions in the Godsmen, but many of the Godsmen high-ups are Disciples. And if the aggressive action is needed, Vergrove typically calls upon these men and women to undertake such tasks. Disciples of Ascendance combine some of the abilities of fighters, rogues, and monks to produce a highly trained combat machine. They have a tendency to be lawful, but it is not required.
  • To qualify to become a Disciple of Ascendance, a character must fulfill the following criteria:
  • Base Attack Bonus: +5 or greater.
  • Feats: Improved Unarmed Strike.
  • Skills: Listen 5+ ranks, Spot 5+ ranks, Move Silently 4+ ranks, Hide 4+ ranks.
  • Special: Must be a member of the Believers of the Source.

  • The following skills are considered class skills for a Disciple of Ascendance:
  • Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Escape Artist (Dex), Hide (Dex), Jump (Str), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Spot (Wis), Swim (Str), Tumble (Dex).
  • Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier.
  • All of the following are features of the Disciple of Ascendance prestige class:
  • Hit Die: d8.
  • Weapon and Armor Proficiency: None.
  • Evasion (Ex): As normal.
  • Sneak Attack (Ex): As normal.
  • Uncanny Dodge (Ex): As normal.
  • Calm Mind (Ex): The disciple is so focused on his goal as to be able to block out exterior distractions. He receives a +2 competence bonus to save versus mind-affecting and compulsion effects. This stacks with any similar abilities.
  • Two-hand Fighting: Beginning at 2nd level, the disciple can fight with an unarmed attack and a weapon as if he had the Two-Weapon Fighting feat. He may use either his unarmed attack or the armed attack as the off-hand weapon. He need not keep a hand free so long as he can use his feet (he could wield a greatsword and kick an opponent, for example). The Disciple needs to be unarmored, unloaded, and not wearing a shield to use this style.
At 6th level, the Disciple gains the Improved Two-hand fighting ability, which allows him to make a second attack with it's off-hand weapon albeit at a -5 penalty (just like the Improved Two-Weapon Fighting Feat).
At 10th level, the Disciple gains the Greater Two-hand fighting ability, which allows him to make a third attack with it's off-hand weapon albeit at a -10 penalty (just like the Greater Two-Weapon Fighting Feat).
  • Unarmed Damage: If the character had unarmed damage higher than this value, he uses the higher value. Small monk creatures use the chart on page 39 of the Player's Handbook.
